In response to recent criticism of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine Ethics Committee's recommendation to use the term "Embryo Donation" rather than "Embryo Adoption", Dr. Sweet released a statement in support of the recently published guidelines. "Those that are using the term 'Embryo Adoption' are arbitrarily re-defining the legal term 'adoption'. By doing so, there are potential social, ethical and legal implications that go well beyond the simple phrase."

Interestingly, just days before criticism was brought against the Ethics Committee, Dr. Sweet and Harold Eskin, Esq., posted a detailed summary of why the term "Embryo Donation" was appropriate and why "Embryo Adoption" was not.
