Dear Dr. Sweet and staff:

With this letter, we announce the proud and happy news that we are the parents of a baby girl born October 8, 1999. We can honestly say that your help made it possible for us to be feeding, burping, diapering and playing with Alana Lauren today!

When we first visited your practice, we had been trying to have a baby for well over a year with no results. While we discovered shortly after our first visit that we were expecting, you quickly determined that a fibroid tumor was inhibiting the progress of the pregnancy. Dr. Sweet diagnosed this tumor that had gone undetected, probably for many years, and then performed a successful surgery to remove the tumor.

This step, of course, didn't guarantee that we would conceive. After another period of several months of trying, with the assistance of the staff and Dr. Carnovale, we underwent the artificial insemination procedure. We were fortunate to be successful in conceiving with this procedure on the first try. We were even more fortunate to have a healthy pregnancy and to deliver a bouncing eight pound, seven ounce baby girl.

The lessons we learned and would pass along from this experience are that persistence can definitely pay off, and that getting the right experts involved is extremely important. We feel fortunate that we were referred to Dr. Sweet.

Sincerely,

David and Laura Shukovsky

Comment From Dr. Sweet:
Laura and David worked very hard to bring Alana into this world.

While Laura was quite slender, the location of the fibroid tumor on the back of her uterus made it quite difficult to diagnose. I have diagnosed a few of these "elusive" tumors in the past. The key was to listen to Laura's symptoms and then keep an open mind until we found the problem and proposed a solution.

Laura sailed through the major surgery like a real "trooper". David was certainly there to support her. Unfortunately, time was running out. With a little luck (LUCK: where preparation met opportunity), we were very fortunate to be successful so quickly with the use of ancillary procedures. Alana was the eventual result.

This was a wonderful couple with a wonderful story to tell. On the side, I was also quite pleased that I was able to help a fellow Northwestern Graduate make another future Northwestern Graduate!

Congratulations are due to this very determined family!
